British Columbia Jade

Nephrite Jade is a silicate of calcium and magnesium found primarily in the northwest corner of B.C. Usually a medium to deep green colour, this gemstone is very popular for jewellery and carvings. Due to the hardness of the stone (6.5), jade must be carved by a lengthy process of cutting, grinding and polishing.

Traditionally linked with serenity; jade is a stone of balance, peace, harmony and good fortune. It is also recognized as the traditional gift for celebrating the 35th anniversary.

British Columbia is the largest exporter of nephrite jade in the world, and in 1969, jade was declared the official stone of the Province of British Columbia.
